About me

  • Since joining my first writing group in 2013, I have fallen in love with the editing process. So much so that in 2020 I quit my full-time teaching job to focus on editing as a profession. Since then I have completed a post-graduate Certificate of Editing and Publishing from USQ. On top of that, I regularly take part in training courses to keep my skills up to date. These courses include editing children’s books, comics and graphic novels, historical fiction, plus science fiction and fantasy.

I am an associate member of the Institute of Professional Editors, and am working towards my professional accreditation.

There’s nothing I love more than sitting in front of my fireplace (hence Fireside Editing!), drinking a cup of tea, and diving deep into another’s words.

If you think my skills and passion would be a good fit for your project, please contact me using the link at the top of the page.

  • I’ve been writing novels, short stories, non-fiction articles, and plays for over ten years. Several of my short stories (such as Canary Fields, winner of the 2016 My Brother Jack award) have received awards, and have been published in anthologies. My articles have been published in the King’s Tribune and The Skeptic.

I have belonged to and facilitated several writing groups over the years. Reading other people’s stories and offering feedback is what introduced me to my love of editing. It is a great privilege to read a first draft and be a part of developing it into something wonderful.

You can see samples of my work on my Contently profile.

  • Before making the switch into fulltime editing I was a high school teacher. While I mostly taught maths, I was lucky enough to be given the chance to teach Creative Writing, a year 10 elective, and run the weekly Creative Writing Club. I love helping people become better writers, which you will see if you decide to take on my coaching services.

I have also worked as a magician, musician, Santa photographer, computer assembler, wood worker, and child carer.

My favourite works of fiction are Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk, Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, and Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. My favourite non-fictions books are How to Invent Everything by Ryan North, Night School by Richard Wiseman, and Road Hustler by Robert Prus.

I have two daughters who own more books than outfits, and get very cross when it’s time to stop reading and go to sleep.
